Inner City Athletic Program

Our vision is to bring at-risk boys & girls ages 7-14, who live in low-income communities the awareness of health education, ways to decrease obesity, the importance of exercise, good nutritional choices, self-esteem, self-confidence, and the ability to adjust to their environment. We want our youth to thrive, value diversity, overcome adversity, help others, succeed in school, demonstrate leadership, and participate in their own healthy lifestyles and futures. Using best practices and evidence-based techniques our youth thrive in their quest for healthier and safer lifestyles.

Inner City Athletic Program is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that has been established in 2008. We provide free athletic instruction, health and nutritional education classes in schools, various recreational locations, and special events. Pre & post-test are conducted to track increased knowledge of health education. High school students who volunteer earn community service credits for their school's requirements.

ICAP collaborates with many organizations in the San Diego community. We partner with the District Attorney's Office with our crime prevention program through the CARE Center. We partner with the US Attorney's Office's Success Agents and Constructing Hope in elementary schools. We have collaborations with Say San Diego, Wakeland Properties, SD Unified School District, Ocean View Growing Grounds, Childhood Obesity Initiative, YMCA, Recreational Centers, San Diego Accountable Community for Health, as well as, many others.
